The boys and youth choir "Varpelis" was founded in 1960 in the Palace of Trade-Union Culture in Kaunas. The Varpelis School of Boys'Choral Singing was established in 1989.

Since 1983 Ksaveras Planciunas is the artistic director of the choir.
Varpelis participates in various culture projects with Kaunas'student choirs and several projects with countries like Germany, Norway, Latvia and others.
